While current case rates remain low, with a positive test rate under one percent at surveillance points, the National Health Commission (NHC) highlighted the increasing presence of JN.1.

Deputy Minister of Health Sanong Thongsana said that booster shots are necessary to ensure immunity against the virus, especially its new variants.

4 Jan 2024. The Ministry of Health has issued an urgent press release, confirming the discovery of two more cases of monkeypox in Cambodia.

The Ministry released the news on the evening of January 3, 2024.

These 2 new cases follow the the first case of monekypox in a 28-year-old man living in Pese village, Sangkat Teuk Thla, Khan Sen Sok, Phnom Penh on December 13, 2023.

30 Dec 2023. Cambodia has detected the first four cases of the new COVID-19 JN.1 variant, which is the “descendant of the highly mutated BA.2.86 lineage,” the country’s health ministry announced.

“The results obtained from the Pasteur Institute in Cambodia on Dec. 28 confirmed that four persons tested positive for the COVID-19 JN.1 variant,” the ministry said in a statement.

13 Dec 2023. The Ministry of Health has stated that a 28-year-old man living in Phnom Penh has tested positive for Monkey Pox. He developed genital warts, which spread to the right neck, cheeks, forearms and legs, and sought medical advice at the hospital and was sent to the Institute of National Public Health for testing on December 11, 2023 and after receiving a positive result of the Monkey Pox virus, the patient was placed in isolation.
